Rockford nonprofit art space holds Holidaze Art Market

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A nonprofit art gallery and multidisciplinary creative space holds a holiday art market on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.

The 317 Art Collaborative, and its gift shop, Weirdo Art Collectibles, put together the Holidaze Art Market for Rockford-based artists to showcase and sell their work.

Laura Gomel, the executive director of the 317 Art Collaborative, is a big proponent of shopping local and supporting the artists at the space. “It’s so important for people to shop at small businesses because if you go to a big-box store, and there’s a bazillion of them on the East side, that’s great for the CEO of that company [who] doesn’t live here. But, when you come and shop locally and support local artists and support local businesses, then you’re giving money right back into your community.”

Instead of having only the space’s resident artists creating and selling their art, fifteen local artists will be working at the shop.

While the 317 Art Collaborative held the market on Black Friday, it will also have the market up and ready on Small Business Saturday (which is also when Stroll on State is).

You can catch the Holidaze Art Market from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30 at 317 Market Street.
