Shoppers fill River Park Square for annual BrrrZAAR art market

84 art vendors took over three floors of the mall for Spokane’s largest all-local winter art market. BrrrZAAR is in its fifth year at River Park Square.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The holiday spirit is in full swing downtown, as more than 50 businesses took over River Park Square for the annual BrrrZAAR.

The BrrrZAAR is celebrating its fifth year back at the mall. This year, more than 80 art vendors took over three mall floors for Spokane’s largest all-local winter art market.

“We have, 84 good vendors who got in and hopefully it gets bigger in the future,” said event organizer Jackie Caro.

Caro is the operations director for Terrain Spokane, the non-profit putting on the event. She said the art market’s a big moneymaker, with artists raising more than $200,000 dollars last year.

“People are experiencing something that maybe they’re not used to, and finding locally made things from the people in our community,” Caro said.

The event hosts businesses selling items, ranging from art pieces to candles.

“There is a very amazing art community here in Spokane,” local artist Kelley Hudson said. “I get to make money, which is great as an artist, but I actually get to talk to people who are really enthusiastic about things that I make.”

The event also featured live music, holiday food, and pictures with Santa.

“We were already going to come in to see Santa, the BrrrZAAR was an extra incentive to shop around,” shopper Travis Black said.

There is only one day of the BrrrZAAR, but Terrain Spokane hosts another art market during the summer.
